In recent times Newport RFC has been marketed as " A Family Thing " but there's nothing new in that, for me & mine. It always has been and always will be. I take my daughters when possible, just like my Dad took me. There's a special bond between NRFC and supporter. I think I have experienced every emotion possible watching Newport at Rodney Parade. What else can give you that ?
I think I was 6 (I'm now 35) when I first attended a game, but the first match I REMEMBER was versus Tonga. I remember asking my Infant school headmistress for the afternoon off to watch it - she agreed but she was very envious !! I think the year was 1974/75? Coming up to 30 years as a Newport supporter now.
I suppose my favourite player would be David Waters, although my first "idol" was Colin Smart.
My daughters fave is Snowy ! (he's my fave of the modern era too)
As for the match, can I have a top three?
3 - vs New Zealand when my brother played against them .
2 - The 2001 Cup Final and especially at the club afterwards
1 - 1977 Cup Final , is there anything sweeter than that victory over our oldest and fiercest rival?
Best of luck with the launch.
