From Supporters Joe Crocker Being a Newport RFC supporter for about 20 years has meant quite a lot to me, for the past 12 years I have been working away from Newport and making games is more than just the rugby on offer, it's a great chance to meet up with friends in a great atmosphere. Now, for maybe a short time, I'm living back in Newport and it's the new friends that I've met at Rodney Parade that I enjoy the most! Although my first game is a little hazy, I can remember, as a 10 year old, seeing a great Barbarians team with some Scots (Findlay Calder and John Jeffries spring to mind) running Newport ragged. The year and the result have escaped me but the event and the 'Rodney Parade Experience' haven't and will not leave me. My favourite player has been Shane Howarth, maybe not the most consistent player but one who did always give 100% and of course Newport RFCs top scorer! The most memorable match for me was away from Rodney Parade, it was the Principality Cup Final in the Millenium Stadium against a strong Neath team. To see Teich lift that cup in his last game was brilliant - we even had to go against a referee who used to play for Neath - perhaps that's why he disallowed 2 tries?
