From Current & Former Players
‘Playing for Newport in the late sixties early seventies was to me one of the best times of my life. From a young boy it was my lifetime ambition to play rugby for Newport and wear the famous Black & Amber jersey.'
'At the age of twenty one I made it into the Newport 1st XV. From then things certainly changed, opportunities opened the chance to travel and play rugby around the world. I had the privilege of meeting up with many great characters in the game.'
'The downside was that I had to work six days a week to earn a living and pay the mortgage, plus playing twice a week and training four times a week to maintain peak fitness. All this to keep my place in the Newport team.'
'Many close friendships developed amongst the players, which have lasted over the past years. I always enjoyed discussing the game with the loyal Newport supporters. Their criticism and ability to read the game was always of great use.'
'Good luck with the formation and future of the Trust Fund. I wish you every success.'
