FoNR and the Rugby World Cup!
Friends of Newport Rugby were delighted to be invited along to a Rugby World Cup event that was held at Newport High School. The Webb Ellis trophy is being paraded around various locations in the UK prior to the start of the tournament in September. Newport High School was chosen as a venue for a publicity event as some of the teams competing in the competition will be using the excellent training facilities at the school. FoNR have a programme in place that provides finance for the provision of a rugby coach at the school to help run the acdemy team. Flanker Rhys Jenkins fills this role reporting to ex Wales and Dragons second row Robert Sidoli who is head of rugby at the school. We have already seen the partnership working well with a number of the high school lads turning out for Newport RFC. The picture shows Newport RFC's secretary Dennis Bennett and FoNR's Dave Tingey flanking the current Newport High School and Newport RFC squad members Bryce Morgan, James Scarfi and Barney Nightingale, the latter of which has played for Newport, The Dragons and Wales U20's.
