Local AM supports FoNR
On 7th February the Trust welcomed the Newport east Assembly Minister John Griffiths to Rodney Parade to appraise him of the work being done in support of Newport RFC, it's Supporters and the Community it serves. John is very keen on community activity and sport and as a Newport man himself he was very keen to see how we are benefiting the City of Newport. Firstly we showed him some of the activities of the Community Section of the Trust, mentioning the matchday fun with local teams and club mascots, as well as talking about funding for local teams and the new Newport High School Rugby Academy. We pointed out that rugby teaches discipline, a sense of law, fairplay and teamwork, whilst channeling the expenditure of energy in a worthwhile activity whilst encouraging fitness, awareness and skill. We made sure we pointed out that the Academy allows boys to be coached professionally whilst studying for worthwhile A levels, with the primary view to identifying and recruiting the best local talent for Newport RFC in the future.
it was also pointed out that as a voice for supporters of the club, we were making great efforts to keep the club aware of itself as a community hub.
John took an active part in joining the Guard of Honour which was performed on the day by young players from St.Julians HSOB, a club that had benefited from sponsorship by the Trust in the recent past.
During and after the match, John was introduced to the club management by Trust Committee members where we took the opportunity to demonstrate how important a part of the whole set up FoNR is.
