Tom Leads Out Newport as Ponty Triumph
Tomos Grant who attends the Ponthir Church in Wales School is no stranger to the rugby pitch as he plays at scrum half for Newport HSOB U11. On a sunny October afternoon he lead out Newport with skipper Alex Jones as Newport played host to Pontypridd. Tom departed somewhat from tradition and chose front row Dai Pattison as his favourite player, possibly as Dai has been around since before Tom was born (well very nearly). It is good to see that some of our young supporters understand that it is the hard work done up front that often wins the game. The two met up before kick off for a photograph together. Tom also got a snap with the captain for the family album After Tom had run out with the team, the home crowd were rewarded with some quality first half rugby from Newport as they stormed into an 18-3 lead. Unfortunately Ponty started the second half strongly and were already looking dangerous when Newport were dealt a nasty hand with a pair of yellow cards. With Newport down to thirteen men at a critical stage of the game, they inevitably let Ponty back in to squeeze a win by 23 points to 18. Nick Jackson. FoNR Community Rep |
