Jess and Joe Lead Out Derby Winners
Jess and Joe are no strangers to mascot appearances and have provided the duty for a few years now. It is a well deserved reward as their parents carry out important work for the Newport Official Supporters Club. This season, Scott Williams and Sam Waldron were selected as the childrens favourites and they met up with both, and captain Alex Jones before kick off. Both Scott and Sam had served some time at Pontypool, so it was fitting that they were chosen as Newport favourites for the match. Both mascots lead out the team with the captain and Jess placed the match ball on the centre spot ready for kick off. The game was well contested and both sides played some quality rugby. The grudge of the local derby was kept just under the surface and it took until late in the game for Newport to pull away for another significant win over our traditional rivals. For their part, Pontypool were probably wondering how they didn't manage to pick up a deserved point from the game, but then they didn't have an inspirational mascot pair to lead them out.
