Caerleon U15 are Guests of Honour On Saturday 17th September 2005, the Trust was able to entertain it's first vistors to Rodney parade to see Newport beat Camarthen Quins. The Caerleon U15 team all turned out smartly and were taken down to the Burnett Suite and met by Dai Rees who talked to the boys for a short while. He then invited them to stay in the Suite to watch the game but first they were able to meet and talk to several Newport players who were not playing that day. One of these was Andrew Brown a former Caerleon player who had played the following evening for the Newport Gwent Dragons in Dublin. As the Camarthen and Newport teams took the pitch the Caerleon boys formed a guard of honour and cheered all the players onto the park. The Trust would like to organise similar visits in the future as part of it's community commitment, partially to give local youngsers an opportunity to meet their rugby heroes at Rodney Parade but more importantly to remind Newport Supporters of the wealth of talent coming through from around the area served by Newport RFC. Our future depends on the hard work and enthusiasm of the many youngsters and coaches who ensure that the game is being played in and around our city. We would like to thank Caerleon for turning up and doing us proud. Also Dai Rees for interupting the pre match preparations and taking the time to talk to the boys. We would finally like to thank the newport players who looked after the lads during the match. Nick Jackson |
