FoNR provide new technology for Newport RFC Recently we have used some of the money that we have raised to provide the coaches and support staff of the team with a new radio system including headsets that can be used during the games. This replaced an old system that had become unreliable. The system cost over £1000 but the benefits are already being seen by the coaching team. Dai Rees (Newport’s head coach) commented: ‘Having this equipment available has enabled all of the coaches and support staff to get in contact with each other immediately when the game is in progress. In modern day sports that can be of great benefit and give you the competitive edge to react to situations as well as allowing the coaching team to monitor the status of any injuries that may have occurred and to speed up the process of deciding whether a substitution might be necessary.’ Sven Cronk (Newport’s forwards coach) added: We are very grateful to ‘Friends of Newport Rugby’ for their continued support. They have previously made generous donations of training kit and equipment and this latest addition will be very useful to the team.
